Cordoba Spain Fountain
Now this is a city to visit. It was the capital of a Muslim empire that stretched from Spain to Africa. They've done a great job at restoring everything and people are very nice. There are still locals living in the ancient town center, which is rare in Europe.

And vibrant churches on seemingly every street. A priest waits in the confession booth before services.

Oranges in Cordoba Spain Cathedral

The real draw to Cordoba is the giant Cathedral that was converted from one the greatest Mosques in history. Outside in the courtyard stand rows of orange trees that line up with the archway pillars. We visited La Mezquita early this morning since it is free from 8 - 10 am during mass. It is a mosque built in the mid 9th century by a Byzantine emperor. It's been into Catholic church for the last 750 years.

The Pension we stayed in used to be the home of a Peruvian man (of Spanish blood), called the Inca. He is a famous and apparent rich guy because we read about him later in a our guide. The owner showed us how most of the tile was original from the 17th century, only a small section had to be rebuilt. She bought the place over a decade ago and it took her more than a year to fix it up enough for it to be habitable. Then, seeing how much it cost to fix and maintain she began opening up the doors of the lower floor to a restaurant and pension. It's called Hostel Deanes if you ever happen to be in Cordoba, go ahead and stay there.
